Listed below are some of the frequently asked questions we’d like to provide our customers.
Q: What makes allergen-reduced homes different from other homes on the market?
A: Five Star Property Solutions’ homes deal with the allergens in the infrastructure of the home on a full-scale assault. We know that mold, mildew, allergies, and moisture can be reduced through proper ventilation.
First, we remove all debris in walls, ceilings, and sub-flooring. All areas are thoroughly vacuumed before the installation of new drywall. Ductwork is kept free of dust and construction waste by covering the vent openings during demolition and construction and by having them professionally cleaned as the final step.
Next, all of our homes are outfitted with the state-of-the-art E-Z Breathe ventilation system. The E-Z Breathe system is designed to rid the home of harmful moisture and humidity; not merely re-circulate moist, stale air that is polluted with allergens. What this means to you and your family, is that the air in the home is completely exchanged up to 10 times a day!
We also have installed the Fantech Whole House HEPA Filtration System into all Five Star Property’s homes. The unit features a certified HEPA filter designed to be 99.97% effective at removing particles down to 0.3 microns and larger.
As a final measure, our homes are installed mainly with tile and hardwood floors throughout the structure, or special carpet that eliminates carpet allergens.
Q: Why can’t I just place a portable dehumidifier and air purifier in my home and have the same benefits that are offered by owning a Five Star Property Solutions home?
A: Dehumidifiers do not eliminate damp, contaminated air, but rather recycle that same stale air again and again. Air purifiers do not address the critical problems related to moisture and dampness, which lead to mold and mildew. Five Star Property Solutions allergen-reduced homes have the E-Z Breathe and HEPA filtration systems built into the home.
Q: I have an Ionic Breeze ® from the Sharper Image. Won’t that kill all the allergens?
A: Though products that use ozone as a way to remove allergens are effective in killing some allergens, they give off “Ozone” which is a known allergen and irritant to the lungs. Because there is very little circulation of air around the unit, the actual amount of allergens taken out of the air is very small and not likely to offer real relief to allergy sufferers.
Q: What are common building materials that are used in most homes that can cause allergy symptoms in my family? Does Five Star Property Solutions, Inc., use any of these materials?
A: Insulation and adhesives containing formaldehyde (a known carcinogen and allergen) are commonly used in today’s residential construction. Also, many homes are built using paint and carpeting that gives off volatile organic compounds (voc) “gassing” fumes for months or longer after installation. Though we use low or no voc products and building materials, our systems are designed to remove remaining gasses from the home.
Q: Are Five Star Property Solutions homes eco-friendly and energy efficient?
A: We at Five Star Property Solutions, Inc. pride ourselves on our efforts to save energy and use recycled products in the building of our homes. We preserve 75% or more of the original foundation of the home. All of the appliances in our homes are Energy Star Rated.
Q: Will I sleep better in a Five Star Property Solutions, Inc. home?
A: Absolutely! One-third of our lives is spent in the home, sleeping. Allergy sufferer’s often have sinus issues which make it difficult to breathe and therefore sleep while lying down. Other allergic symptoms like headaches from chemicals in cleaning supplies and insecticides can make sleeping difficult. Most allergic symptoms that make sleeping difficult subside once in a Five Star Property Solutions home for a wonderful night's sleep.
